Did you know it’s Mental Health Awareness Week 12 – 18 May?
Well Members of our Art Group at the Packhorse Gallery did and they’ve been working for weeks with local artist Gill Jolly, to bring you ‘A Random Act of Art’
Each ‘Random Act of Art’ consists of various tags, beads and tassels, with a positive message and a voucher to claim a free hot drink at the Packhorse Gallery
We decided to make 100, to promote the 100 days of Yorkshire theme which is currently high profile, then set to work to get them ready in time for Mental Health Awareness Week in order to promote a positive message
This morning, the first day of Mental Health Awareness Week, the ‘Random Acts of Art’ will be divided up equally between all art group attendees, who will then take them out and about during Mental Health Awareness Week and leave them each to be found by a stranger, in a separate public place throughout the Huddersfield & Kirklees area.
The tags all hold brief positive messages of support & encouragement and also have a part which can be handed in at The Packhorse Gallery to claim a free hot drink. This can be easily removed, leaving the holder with their stunning ‘Random Act of Art’ to keep
Gill who regularly volunteers with our art group came up with the initial idea to create something that highlighted the work of The Packhorse Gallery and promoted that we are working everyday to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues, whilst providing affordable & accessible artistic opportunities
I hope you are one of the lucky ones to find one of the one hundred ‘Random Acts of Art’ which can be found around Huddersfield & Kirklees during this week. If you do, we look forward to serving you a refreshing cuppa at the Packhorse Gallery
