The Carers Create Barge Trip

Did you know that besides our creative, environmental and wellbeing options, we also offer a service specifically for carers, that’s any adult who cares for another adult, it doesn’t have to be full time, if you feel you give any amount of time regularly to ensure someone else is safe and well, then you could be a carer
‘Carers Create’ sessions are every Wednesday and Friday mornings, you can come on your own or bring the person you care for.

Recently ‘Carers Create’ enjoyed a barge trip along the waterways in Mirfield, Safe Anchor Trust operate services specifically for people who may not get the opportunity otherwise, we booked months in advance to ensure we could use the largest boat which had been converted to take up to 5 wheelchair users and event though it was mid October, we could not have picked a better day

A couple of hours into the journey, the barge stopped near a local pub and pre ordered food was delivered to the barge! After that the group enjoyed some time sketching and taking photos of the lovely scenery, one regular attendee who uses a wheelchair, stated she had not been so near nature and water in at least five years, another told me they had seen a kingfisher

It was hard to leave the waterside, everyone was thoroughly captivated by the calm and beauty, the men who manned the barge were full of knowledge and humour and made the day perfect, we can’t wait to book for next year

Our thanks again to Safe Anchor Trust in Mirfield for the great work they do and if you would like to know more about Carers Create at S2R or any of our other activities to promote wellbeing and positive mental health, please check out our website wwwsS2R.org.uk we are based in central HUDDERSFIELD but work throughout the Kirklees area
